Friday the Dow closed up +172.85 (+0.37%) at 46,315.27.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +8.86%.

The Dow stock winners Friday were led by Amgen (AMGN) 285.41 (+3.47%), Apple (AAPL) 245.50 (+3.20%) and Microsoft (MSFT) 517.93 (+1.86%).

The Dow stock losers Friday were led by Nike (NKE) 70.89 (-1.86%), Chevron (CVX) 156.21 (-1.66%) and Walmart (WMT) 102.33 (-1.23%).

The VIX closed Friday at 15.45 (-1.59%) and the 10 YR at 4.129 (+0.63%). The VIX is currently at 16.10 (+4.21%). The 10YR is at 4.119 (-0.36%).

Last week the Federal Reserve cut interest rates by a quarter percentage point, its first reduction since December. It was a widely anticipated decision that, after some initial volatility, investors took to mean the central bank has taken a dovish tilt amid rising signs of a slowing labor market. Markets are now pricing in two more quarter-point cuts between now and the end of the year.

Friday we get the latest personal consumption expenditures price index, the Fed’s preferred inflation measure which is expected to show elevated pricing pressures. However, inflation is expected to remain tame enough for the Fed to maintain its current stance on monetary policy.

U.S. futures are lower, European stocks are mostly lower and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is up one-tenth of a cent at $3.184 per gallon.
