The Dow stock losers Monday were led by Walgreens (WBA) 22.78 (-2.02%), UnitedHealth (UNH) 538.03 (-0.25%) and JPMorgan (JPM) 147.85 (-0.10%).

The VIX closed Monday at 17.21 (-10.92%) and the 10 YR at 4.718 (+0.19%). The VIX is currently at 18.52 (+7.61%). The 10YR is at 4.852 (+3.04%).

Retail sales rose 0.7%. Economists had expected a 0.3% increase. Excluding autos, sales increased by 0.6%. That was also above expectations.

Goldman earned $5.47 per share on $11.82 billion in revenue for the third quarter. Analysts had forecasted $5.31 in earnings per share, though that figure may not be comparable. For revenue, the analyst consensus estimate was $11.19 billion.

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) climbed 1.4% in premarket trading after the company beat quarterly earnings and revenue estimates. J&J also raised its full-year guidance as sales in the company’s pharmaceutical and medical devices businesses surged. The earnings marks J&J’s first quarterly results since the pharmaceutical giant separated from its consumer health spinoff Kenvue in August. J&J had lowered its full-year sales and profit guidance upon that split.

U.S. futures are mostly lower, European stocks are mostly lower and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down 1.6 cents at $3.584 per gallon.
