The Dow stock winners Wednesday were led by Dow (DOW) 55.54 (+0.96%), Honeywell (HON) 189.24 (+0.85%) and Caterpillar (CAT) 284.53 (+0.58%).

The Dow stock losers Wednesday were Salesforce (CRM) 205.86 (-2.70%), Intel (INTC) 34.28 (-2.11%) and Goldman Sachs (GS) 342.69 (-1.60%).

The VIX closed Wednesday at 15.96 (-0.19%) and the 10 YR at 4.014 (+0.25%). The VIX is currently at 15.13 (-5.20%). The 10YR is at 3.985 (-0.47%). Wow, look at that, under 4 percent.

The consumer price index rose 3.2% from a year ago in July. Prices accelerated 0.2% for the month, in line with estimates, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday. However, the annual rate was slightly below the 3.3% forecast though higher than June. Excluding volatile food and energy prices so-called core CPI also increased 0.2% for the month, equating to a 12-month rate of 4.7%. The annual rate for core also was slightly below a Dow Jones consensus estimate for 4.8%. Real average weekly earnings were unchanged last month in another positive sign. Markets are reacting positively to the report.

Disney (DIS) announced Wednesday that it would raise the price of almost all of its streaming options starting in October, as well as cracking down on password sharing. The ad-free version of Disney+ will go up 27% to $13.99 per month, while the price of Hulu without ads will jump 20%, to $17.99 per month. The hikes come as Disney looks to accelerate profitability for the business. The company reported mixed results for its fiscal third quarter amid ongoing subscriber losses and falling revenue. Still, its stock was up 2% Thursday morning after announcing the streaming changes.

U.S. futures are higher, European stocks are mostly higher and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is up three-tenths of a cent at $3.828 per gallon.
