The Dow stock winners Monday were led by JPMorgan (JPM) 138.73 (+7.55%), Goldman Sachs (GS) 336.92 (+1.44%) and Caterpillar (CAT) 223.68 (+0.91%).

The Dow stock losers Monday were led by Boeing (BA) 201.71 (-5.56%), Travelers (TRV) 168.37 (-2.79%) and UnitedHealth (UNH) 511.79 (-4.10%).

The VIX closed Monday at 16.95 (-0.70%). The VIX is currently at 16.95 (0.00%). The 10YR is at 3.598.

Goldman Sachs (GS) fell after the investment bank said revenue came in lighter than Wall Street expected on weak bond trading. Goldman said first quarter revenue was $12.22 billion, below the $12.79 billion consensus estimate of analysts polled by Refinitiv. Adjusted earnings were $8.79 a share however, above the estimate for $8.10 per share. Fixed income, currencies and commodity trading was $3.93 billion in the first quarter, below the $4.16 billion estimated. Goldman also said it took a $470 million hit tied to the sale of consumer loans in its Marcus unit.

China GDP rose at a 4.5% pace in the first quarter the highest level in a year and more than the 4% estimate.

Shares of Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) were higher in premarket trading after the drug and consumer products giant reported better-than-expected results for the first quarter. J&J said sales for the period increased 5.6% to $24.75 billion, above the $23.67 billion consensus estimate. Adjusted earnings came in at $2.68 per shares ex-items, above the consensus estimate of $2.50 a share. The CEO noted “strong performance” across all three business segments with the company raising its 2023 guidance midpoints. Shares gained more than 1% in premarket trading.

U.S. futures are higher, European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is up three-tenths of a cent at $3.676 per gallon.
