The February jobs report has arrived. Payrolls rose by 311,000 last month, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The unemployment rate ticked up to 3.6%. That’s well above the 225,000 jobs expected by economists. While it’s well under the shocking 517,000 jobs in January, it’s still considered a big number, making for another potential “good news is bad news” scenario for the bulls. Average hourly earnings increased by 0.24% last month, the report showed, lighter than the 0.4% increase expected by economists polled by Dow Jones. Wages increased by 4.6% from a year ago, compared to the 4.8% estimate.

The 10-year Treasury yield dropped more than 14 basis points to 3.779% following the report. The spike in rates this year has weighed on stocks.

U.S. futures are mostly higher, European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended lower.

The national average price of gasoline is up seven-tenths of a cent at $3.474 per gallon.
