The Dow stock winners Friday were led by Chevron (CVX) 171.97 (+2.10%), Walgreens (WBA) 36.55 (+2.07%) and UnitedHealth (UNH) 494.25 (+1.75%).

The Dow stock losers Friday were led by Salesforce (CRM) 167.03 (-3.82%), Disney (DIS) 108.06 (-2.08%) and Visa (V) 227.20 (-0.94%).

The 10 YR yield closed Friday at 3.743 (+1.49%) and the VIX at 20.53 (-0.87%). The 10 YR is currently at 3.728 (-0.45%) and VIX is at 21.42 (+4.34%).

All three major indexes ended last week on a downturn. The Dow slipped 0.17%, the S&P 500 fell 1.11%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq slid 2.41%, marking their biggest weekly losses since December. The moves came after Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said that there is still a long way to go in the fight against inflation. Powell also noted that interest rates could rise more than markets anticipate if inflation numbers do not abate, reversing some of the prior market optimism that rate hikes would soon ease.

Tomorrow we get January’s consumer price index report, showing if price increases have continued to slow amid the central bank’s rate hikes. Economists forecast a 0.4% increase in headline CPI on a monthly basis, as well as a 6.2% gain from the prior year.

U.S. futures are mostly lower, European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down three-tenths of a cent at $3.416 per gallon.
