The Dow stock losers Wednesday were led by Home Depot (HD) 275.49 (-3.36%), Dow (DOW) 45.13 (-2.70%) and JPMorgan (JPM) 116.51 (-1.96%).

The 10 YR yield closed Wednesday at 4.150% and the VIX at 30.76 (+0.85%). The 10 YR is currently at 4.153 and VIX is at 30.79 (+0.10%).

Markets are looking mixed this morning with the Dow up slightly.

President Joe Biden on Wednesday awarded $2.8 billion in grants to boost battery production for the vehicles. The funds, which come from Biden’s $1 trillion infrastructure law, will go to companies in at least 12 states. The Energy Department said the projects will help develop lithium to supply about 2 million EVs each year, graphite to supply about 1.2 million EVs annually, and nickel to supply about 400,000 EVs every year. On the flip side, with the midterm elections right around the corner, Biden urged oil companies to invest their profits in more production instead of buybacks. Gas prices are well below their peak from earlier this year, but they’re still high, and voters are worried most about inflation and the economy.

UK Prime Minister Liz Truss has resigned this morning after just six weeks on the job. This comes after a failed tax-cutting budget that rocked financial markets and which led to a revolt within her own Conservative Party.

U.S. futures are mixed, European stocks are mostly lower and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down 1.8 cents at $3.836 per gallon.
