The Dow Market Happenings For Tuesday, May 06, 2014

Dow stocks at 52 week highs include Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM). There are no Dow stock 52 week lows.

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open down -25 points.

Monday, the Dow closed up +17.66 (+0.11%) at 16,530.55.

Year-to-date the Dow is down -0.28%.

Drugmaker Merck (MRK) announced that it will sell its consumer care business to Bayer AG for $14.2 billion.

Wal-Mart’s global internet sales finally outpaced that of internet giant Amazon.com last year, marking the first time in ten years that Wal-Mart outdid its rival. Wal-Mart sales gained 30 percent last year while Amazon’s sales rose by just 20 percent in 2013. However, Amazon sales are exponentially higher in scale as the company sold more than its 10 largest competitors combined in 2013.

European stocks were mixed and Asian markets that were open, closed higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down six-tenths of a cent at $3.667 per gallon.
