The Dow stock losers Thursday were led by Walgreens (WBA) 48.71 (-7.41%), Walmart (WMT) 139.32 (-1.21%) and Goldman Sachs (GS) 374.99 (-1.20%).
Nonfarm payrolls increased by 850,000 in June vs. the estimate for 706,000. The unemployment rate unexpectedly rose to 5.9% vs. the 5.6% estimate. Wages were up 0.3% for the month and 3.6% year over year, both in line with expectations. The labor force participation rate was unchanged at 61.6%.
The 30-stock Dow has risen for three sessions in a row and sits at its highest level since June 4. The major averages are all positive for the week and on pace for their second straight weekly gain.
US futures are higher, European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended mostly higher.
The national average price of gasoline is up three-tenths of a cent at $3.126 per gallon.
