Walmart (WMT) reported first-quarter earnings surged past estimates on strong grocery sales and e-commerce growth. The retailer said more shoppers headed to its stores and website to spend stimulus checks and to get ready to socialize again as Covid cases decline and vaccination rates rise. Per-share profit was $1.69. Revenue grew by nearly 3% to $138.31 billion. Walmart raised its outlook for the year.

Home Depot (HD) reported first-quarter earnings and revenue beat expectations as consumers’ splurging on their homes lingered more than a year into the pandemic. Net sales rose nearly 33% to $37.5 billion. Per-share profit was $3.86. Home Depot has not released an outlook for fiscal 2021.

European stocks are mostly higher and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down two-tenths of a cent at $3.043 per gallon.

Home Depot (HD) reported earnings on 5/18/2021 before the market open of $3.86, beating estimates of $3.04 per share.

Walmart (WMT) reported earnings on 5/18/2021 before the market open of $1.69, beating estimates of $1.216 per share.

Cisco (CSCO) reports earnings on 5/19/2021 after the market close.
