DJIA Market Happenings For Wednesday, May 19, 2021

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open down -330 points.

Tuesday the Dow was down -267.13 (-0.78%) at 34,060.66.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +11.29%.

The Dow stock winners Tuesday were led by Walmart (WMT) 141.91 (+2.17%), UnitedHealth (UNH) 410.38 (+0.43%) and McDonald’s (MCD) 231.93 (+0.11%).

The Dow stock losers Tuesday were led by Chevron (CVX) 106.18 (-3.01%), Caterpillar (CAT) 239.47 (-2.17%) and Travelers (TRV) 157.29 (-1.85%).

The 10-year Treasury yield topped 1.67% early Wednesday, ahead of the afternoon release of the minutes from the Federal Reserve’s April policy meeting. At that gathering, central bankers kept interest rates near zero and the pace of asset purchases steady. They acknowledged an uptick in economic activity as the U.S. recovers from Covid but insisted any inflation would be transitory. The 10-year yield went above 1.7% in last week’s stock sell-off, the highest level in more than a month following a run of 14-month highs in March.

European stocks are mostly lower and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is unchanged at $3.043 per gallon.

Disney (DIS) reported earnings on 5/13/2021 after the market close of $0.79, beating estimates of $0.312 per share.

Home Depot (HD) reported earnings on 5/18/2021 before the market open of $3.86, beating estimates of $3.04 per share.

Walmart (WMT) reported earnings on 5/18/2021 before the market open of $1.69, beating estimates of $1.216 per share.

Cisco (CSCO) reports earnings on 5/19/2021 after the market close.
