DJIA Market Happenings For Wednesday, May 5, 2021

Dow stocks hitting 52 week highs include Home Depot (HD) and UnitedHealth (UNH). There are no Dow stock 52 week lows.

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open up +91 points.

Tuesday the Dow was up +19.80 (+0.06%) at 34,133.03.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +11.52%.

There were 14 Dow stocks up Tuesday.

The Dow stock winners Tuesday were led by Dow (DOW) 66.22 (+2.59%), Caterpillar (CAT) 233.41 (+2.30%) and Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) 167.77 (+1.55%).

The Dow stock losers Tuesday were led by Apple (AAPL) 127.85 (-3.54%), Salesforce (CRM) 217.18 (-2.94%) and Microsoft (MSFT) 247.79 (-1.62%).

The ADP’s monthly private sector employment report said U.S. companies added a fewer-than-expected 742,000 jobs in April.

Treasury Secretary Yellen conceded that the Federal Reserve may have to hike interest rates as the government unleashes further massive spending. After the stock market close, Yellen tried to walk back her “somewhat” comment, at least somewhat. She said she’s “not predicting or recommending” rate hikes. Yellen added that she’s not concerned about inflation.

European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended lower.

The national average price of gasoline is up 1.4 cents at $2.927 per gallon.
