DJIA Market Happenings For Monday, May 3, 2021

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open up +180 points.

Friday the Dow was down -185.51 (-0.54%) at 33,874.85.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +11.28%.

There were 9 Dow stocks up Friday.

The Dow stock winners Friday were led by Amgen (AMGN) 239.64 (+2.10%), Merck (MRK) 74.50 (+1.11%) and Verizon (VZ) 57.79 (+0.82%).

The Dow stock losers Friday were led by Chevron (CVX) 103.07 (-3.58%), Dow (DOW) 62.50 (-2.44%) and Salesforce (CRM) 230.32 (-1.72%).

Verizon (VZ) will sell its media group to private equity firm Apollo Global Management for $5 billion, the companies announced Monday. The sale allows Verizon to offload properties from the former internet empires of AOL and Yahoo. Verizon will keep a 10% stake in the assets, which will be rebranded to just Yahoo. Verizon bought AOL in 2015 for $4.4 billion and Yahoo in 2017 for $4.5 billion. The sale by Verizon will see the online media brands under the former Yahoo and AOL umbrellas, such as TechCrunch, Yahoo Finance and Engadget, go to Apollo.

European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended lower.

The national average price of gasoline is up three-tenths of a cent at $2.904 per gallon.
