DJIA Market Happenings For Wednesday, July 1, 2020

Dow stocks at 52 week highs include Microsoft (MSFT) closing at 203.51. There are no Dow stock 52 week lows.

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open up +87 points.

Tuesday the Dow was up +217.08 (+0.85%) at 25,812.88.

Year-to-date the Dow is down -9.55%.

There were 26 Dow stocks up Tuesday.

The Dow stock winners Tuesday were led by Intel (INTC) +2.68%, Microsoft (MSFT) +2.55%, Nike (NKE) +2.27% and Goldman Sachs (GS) +2.15%.

The Dow stock losers Tuesday were Boeing (BA) -5.75%, Dow (DOW) -0.54%, Raytheon (RTX) -0.48% and Disney (DIS) -0.01%.

Democrat Joe Biden is widening his lead over the president in Arizona, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Voters in six 2020 swing states largely disapprove of how Trump is handling the coronavirus crisis. The president was blamed by 35% of the poll respondents for the recent increase in Covid-19 hospitalizations, followed closely by people not wearing masks and states reopening economies too soon.

Our nation’s recent swell of new coronavirus cases to about 40,000 every day is almost double the daily infections seen in mid-May. It’s being largely driven by outbreaks in states across the South and West. Fauci said about 50% of all new cases are coming from just four states: Florida, California, Texas and Arizona.

ADP’s June private-sector jobs report shows a slightly lower-than-expected gain of 2.37 million positions at U.S. companies after an upwardly revised loss of nearly 3.07 million in May.

The government delivers its monthly employment report a day early on Thursday and its regular Thursday look at weekly jobless claims. The stock market is closed Friday in observance of the July Fourth holiday.

European stocks are mostly lower and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is up one-tenth of a cent at $2.179 per gallon.

Walgreens (WBA) reports earnings on 7/9/2020 before the market open.

JPMorgan (JPM) reports earnings on 7/14/2020 before the market open.
