Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open up +170 points.

Tuesday, the Dow was down -469.68 (-2.84%) at 16,058.35.

Year-to-date the Dow is down -9.90%.

Dow stock losers Tuesday were led by Apple (AAPL) -4.47%, Exxon Mobil (XOM) -4.20%, JPMorgan (JPM) -4.20%, and Microsoft (MSFT) -3.91%.

The ADP National Employment Report on Wednesday showed private payrolls increased 190,000 last month. While that was below economists’ expectations for a gain of 201,000 jobs, it was up from the 177,000 positions created in July.

AT&T (T -2.65%) was upgraded to ‘Buy’ from ‘Neutral’ at Citigroup.

European stocks are mostly higher and Asian markets ended lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down a penny at $2.447 per gallon.
