The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open up +86 points.

Wednesday, the Dow was up +293.03 (+1.82%) at 16,351.38.

Year-to-date the Dow is down -8.26%.

There were 29 Dow stocks up Wednesday.

Dow stock winners Wednesday were led by Apple (AAPL) +4.29% and Microsoft (MSFT) +3.68%.

The Dow stock loser Wednesday was Chevron (CVX) -0.17%.

Jobless claims increased by 12,000 to 282,000 in the week ended Aug. 29, a Labor Department report showed Thursday. The median forecast called for 275,000 new applications.

European stocks are mostly higher and Asian markets ended higher. (Note: China is on holiday)

The national average price of gasoline is down nine-tenths of a cent at $2.438 per gallon.
