DJIA Market Happenings For Tuesday, September 16, 2014

Dow stocks at 52 week highs include Goldman Sachs (GS). There are no Dow stock 52 week lows.

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open down -38 points.

Monday, the Dow closed up +43.63 (+0.26%) at 17,031.14.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +2.74%.

Dow stock winners Monday included Pfizer (PFE) +1.66% and Chevron (CVX) +1.29%.

Dow stock losers Monday included Microsoft (MSFT) -0.97% and Boeing (BA) -0.50%.

There were 19 Dow stock winners Monday.

Microsoft (MSFT) was upgraded to ‘Outperform’ from ‘Sector Perform’ at RBC Capital.

Boeing (NYSE: BA) looks likely to win a multibillion dollar contract with NASA that will allow the company to create a replacement for NASA’s space-shuttle fleet. Boeing has been competing against SpaceX, a newer company that had, until now, been considered the favorite for the contract. So far, Boeing’s proposal for a capsule-like space taxi is the least risky and can be created and implemented within the next three years.

Microsoft (MSFT) spent $2.5 billion to acquire Mojang AB, the company behind the popular “Minecraft” video game, the game won’t come with the game’s creator, Markus Persson.

European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down nine-tenths of a cent at $3.381 per gallon.

Earnings Reports.

Nike (NKE) will report earnings on 9/25/14 after the market close.

Notable earnings reports from Monday include:

Analogic Corporation (ALOG) reported fourth quarter EPS of $1.36 on revenue of $142 million, compared to last year’s EPS of $1.53 on revenue of $166.18 million.

Student Transportation Inc. (STB) reported fourth quarter EPS of $0.06 on revenue of $142.57 million, compared to last year’s EPS of $0.08 on revenue of $122.28 million.

Stocks reporting earnings today include:

Adobe Systems Incorporated (ADBE) is expected to report third quarter EPS of $0.26 on revenue of $1.01 billion, compared to last year’s EPS of $0.32 on revenue of $995.12 million.

FactSet Research Systems, Inc. (FDS) is expected to report fourth quarter EPS of $1.30 on revenue of $236.99 million, compared to last year’s EPS of $1.20 on revenue of $219.33 million.
