Monday, Janet Yellen was confirmed by the Senate to head the Federal Reserve. The vote was generally down party lines with Republican Senators voting no. Only 11 Republicans joined Democrats to vote yes. Yellen will replace outgoing chair Ben Bernanke who vacates his position on January 31.
Wednesday we get the release of minutes from the Federal Reserve’s December meeting.
Friday we get the Jobs Report.
European stocks are higher and Asian stocks ended mixed.
The national average price of gasoline is down three-tenths of a cent to $3.314 per gallon.

American Express (AXP) will report earnings on 1/9/14 after the market close.
JPMorgan (JPM) reports earnings on 1/14/14 before the market open.
Intel (INTC) reports earnings on 1/15/14 after the market close.
Goldman Sachs (GS) will report earnings on 1/16/14 before the market open.
United Health (UNH) reports earnings on 1/16/14 before the market open.
Earnings reports from Monday include:
A. Schulman (SHLM) reported earnings that beat expectations. It’s fiscal first-quarter earnings came in at $0.57 per share on revenue of $585.4 million. Analysts expected EPS of $0.47 on revenue of $571 million.
Sonic (SONC) reported mostly inline earnings. It’s first quarter earnings came in at $0.13 on revenue of $126.7 million. Analysts expected EPS of $0.13 on revenue of $127.98 million.
