Disney Reports Earnings: DJIA Market Close For Tuesday, February 05, 2013

The Dow closed up +99.22 (+0.71%) at 13,979.30.

Dow stock winners were led by UNH +3.62%, BAC +3.48%, HPQ +2.6%, JPM +2.33% and KO +2.12%.

Dow stock losers were IBM -0.49% and UTX -0.31%.

The Walt Disney Co. (DIS) posted quarterly earnings and revenue that beat Wall Street’s expectations on Tuesday. Fiscal first-quarter earnings reported, excluding items, was $0.79 per share, down from $0.80 cents a share in the year-earlier period. Net income fell 6 percent to $1.38 billion from $1.46 billion a year ago. Revenue rose 5 percent to $11.34 billion from $10.78 billion. Analysts were expecting $0.76 cents a share on $11.21 billion in revenue.

Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) shares jumped more than 2% after HP said it plans to target Dell’s customers during it’s transition.

European markets closed up and Asian markets ended mixed.

Oil and gold prices dipped slightly.

The yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note rose to 2.02% from 2% Monday.

The U.S. dollar gained versus the British pound and Japanese yen, but lost ground against the euro.
