The Dow Market Happenings For Wednesday, March 16, 2022 – Walgreens (WBA) 48.17 Down -7.65% YTD

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open up +276 points.

Tuesday the Dow closed up +599.10 (+1.82%) at 33,544.34.

Year-to-date the Dow is down -7.69%.

There were 28 Dow stocks up Tuesday.

The Dow stock winners Tuesday were led by Disney (DIS) 134.20 (+4.01%), Microsoft (MSFT) 287.15 (+3.87%), Procter & Gamble (PG) 150.27 (+3.60%) and Home Depot (HD) 328.54 (+3.20%).

The Dow stock losers Tuesday were led by Chevron (CVX) 158.28 (-5.06%) and Dow (DOW) 58.87 (-2.34%).

The 10 YR yield is currently at 2.152%.

The FOMC meeting ends today. Announcement at 11 am PDT.

The Fed’s two-day policy meeting concludes Wednesday, and the U.S. central bank is widely expected to announce its first interest rate hike since December 2018. Fed Chair Jerome Powell is scheduled to hold a news conference 30 minutes later. Most anticipate a quarter-point increase to the fed funds target rate range, which has been between zero and 0.25% since early 2020.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said a potential agreement to ending the war with Russia is starting to “sound more realistic,” as negotiations with Moscow continue. “However, time is still needed for the decisions to be in Ukraine’s interests,” Zelenskyy said in an address to the nation.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine enters its fourth week, and its attack on its neighbor appears to be widening. Local officials in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia said civilian infrastructure in the town had been targeted for the first time. Residential buildings in the Ukrainian capital city, Kyiv, also were under fire again Wednesday.

Pfizer and German partner BioNTech have asked the Food and Drug Administration to authorize an additional coronavirus vaccine booster shot for Americans who are at least 65 years old. In their application, the vaccine makers cite data from Israel that shows a second Covid booster dose at least four months after the initial shot offers better protection against the disease. People age 65 and older face elevated risk for severe illness and death from Covid.

U.S. futures are higher, European stocks are mostly lower and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down 1.1 cents at $4.305 per gallon.
