Friday the Dow closed down -271.66 (-0.78%) at 34,607.72.

The Dow stock losers Friday were led by Apple (AAPL) 148.97 (-3.31%), UnitedHealth (UNH) 403.91 (-2.22%) and Walgreens (WBA) 49.45 (-2.21%).

The Dow Jones Industrial Average looks set to open 200 points higher Monday, bouncing after five straight sessions of losses. For the past week, the Dow dropped almost 2.2%.

House Democrats are expected to propose sweeping tax increases on U.S. companies, wealthy Americans and investors to help pay for their $3.5 trillion budget bill. The plan calls for a corporate tax hike rate to 26.5% from 21% and a 3% surtax on individual income above $5 million. Democrats are also considering raising the top capital gains tax rate to 28.8% from 23.8%. The House returns from its summer recess on Sept. 20. The Senate comes back Monday.

U.S.-based Pfizer’s Covid vaccine, developed in conjunction with German partner BioNTech, could be authorized for use in kids 5-11 as soon as next month. Pfizer is expected to have enough study data by then to submit an application for emergency use to the FDA. The two-dose Pfizer shot is already on emergency use for adolescents 12-15 and full approval for people 16 and older.

Disney (DIS) says they will show the remainder of its slate of movies this year exclusively in theaters, rather than making them simultaneously available on its Disney+ streaming service.

Tuesday, investors will be watching for economic data including the Core CPI, consumer price index which will be closely watched after producer prices surged 8.3% annually in August, the most on record.

Apple’s (AAPL) highly anticipated “California Streaming” event will also be broadcast live from Apple Park on Tuesday. The event, which kicks off at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, is expected to reveal the new iPhone 13 and the Apple Watch Series 7.

US futures are higher, European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is up one-tenth of a cent at $3.176 per gallon.
