DJIA Market Happenings For Friday, April 9, 2021

Dow stocks hitting 52 week highs include Microsoft (MSFT). There are no Dow stock 52 week lows.

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open up +63 points.

Thursday the Dow was up +57.31 (+0.17%) at 33,503.57.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +9.47%.

There were 16 Dow stocks up Thursday.

The Dow stock winners Thursday were led by Apple (AAPL) 130.36 (+1.92%), Salesforce (CRM) 224.45 (+1.66%) and Goldman Sachs (GS) 331.14 (+1.41%).

The Dow stock losers Thursday were led by Nike (NKE) 133.68 (-2.09%), Walgreens (WBA) 54.79 (-1.42%) and Verizon (VZ) 57.60 (-1.32%).

The 10-year Treasury yield ticked higher, but remained below 1.7% and March’s run of 14-month highs. The Labor Department on Friday morning reported that producer prices in March rose 1%, with an ex-food and energy core inflation rate gain of 0.5%. Both were stronger than expected.

U.S. coronavirus cases are creeping higher as infections in many parts of the world are skyrocketing. Even with the U.S. vaccinating about 3 million people per day and nearly 20% of the American population fully inoculated, new daily Covid cases and deaths were still, respectively, averaging over 66,000 and nearly 1,000.

Boeing (BA) has announced a new problem with the troubled 737 Max, this time, the issue is with its electrical system. “Boeing has recommended to 16 customers that they address a potential electrical issue in a specific group of 737 Max airplanes prior to further operations,” the company said. Airlines need to verify that one of the components of the plane’s electrical system is sufficiently grounded, Boeing stated. The company said it is working with the US Federal Aviation Administration to address the problem.

European stocks are mostly higher and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down three-tenths of a cent at $2.867 per gallon.
