DJIA Market Happenings For Tuesday, October 13, 2020

Dow stocks hitting 52 week highs included Caterpillar (CAT), Nike (NKE), Procter & Gamble (PG) and UnitedHealth (UNH). There are no Dow stock 52 week lows.

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open down -186 points.

Monday the Dow was up +250.62 (+0.88%) at 28,837.52.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +1.05%.

There were 23 Dow stocks up Monday.

The Dow stock winners Monday were led by Apple (AAPL) 124.40 (+6.35%), Goldman Sachs (GS) 214.12 (+3.17%) and Microsoft (MSFT) 221.40 (+2.59%).

The Dow stock losers Monday were led by Dow (DOW) 48.58 (-1.58%), Nike (NKE) 129.46 (-1.16%) and IBM (IBM) 127.21 (-0.45%).

JPMorgan (JPM) rose more than 1% in the premarket after the bank Tuesday morning posted quarterly results that beat estimates on the top and bottom lines. JPMorgan posted third-quarter profit of $9.44 billion, or $2.92 per share, exceeding the $2.23 consensus of analysts.

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) reported third-quarter earnings and revenue that beat expectations, led by higher sales in its medical-device unit and higher demand for some of its drugs. The company’s pharmaceutical business, which is working on the coronavirus vaccine, generated $11.4 billion in revenue, a 5% year-over-year increase. J&J also raised full-year guidance. Shares of Johnson & Johnson, despite strong quarterly earnings, fell more than 1% in premarket trading.

Disney (DIS), which saw its theatrical business crippled during the pandemic as customers opted to watch movies at home, has decided to restructure its media and entertainment divisions. To further accelerate and prioritize its direct-to-consumer streaming video strategy, the company revealed late Monday that it is centralizing those operations into a single organization that will be responsible for content distribution, ad sales and Disney+. Disney rose more than 3% in Tuesday’s premarket trading.

European stocks are mostly lower and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down six-tenths of a cent at $2.181 per gallon.
