The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open down -45 points.

Wednesday the Dow was down -3.36 (-0.02%) at 17,526.62.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +0.58%.

The Dow stock winners Wednesday were led by JPMorgan (JPM) +3.86% and Goldman Sachs (GS) +3.42%.

The Dow stock losers Wednesday were led by Wal-Mart (WMT) -3.00% and Nike (NKE) -1.72%.

Walmart reports revenue climbed to $115.9 billion from $114.83 billion in the quarter, breezing past projections for $112.67 billion in revenue from industry analysts. For the three months ended April 30, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. earned $3.08 billion, or 90 cents per share. That compares with $3.34 billion, or $1.03 per share, a year earlier. Excluding one-time charges and benefits, per-share earnings were 98 cents, a dime better than expectations. Walmart anticipates a second-quarter profit between 95 cents and $1.08 per share while analyst projections call for 98 cents per share.

Cisco Systems (CSCO +0.26%) rallied over 6% in after-hours trading after it reported Q3 adjusted EPS of 57 cents, higher than consensus of 55 cents, and said it sees Q3 adjusted EPS of 59 cents-61 cents, above consensus of 58 cents.

A surprise indication from the U.S. Federal Reserve that it may raise interest rates at its next policy meeting in June is weighing on global stock markets.

European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is up 2.2 cents at $2.262 per gallon.
