Market Happenings For Wednesday, September 25, 2013

The Market

Tuesday the Dow closed down -66.79 (-0.43%( at 15,334.59.

Premarket, the Dow was indicated to open up +3 points.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +17.02%.

Boeing (BA) was awarded a $225 million government contract modification for the procurement of six operational flight trainers, six weapons tactics trainers, two part task trainers, one training systems support center, three 10-seat electronic classrooms, and one 20-seat electronic classroom in support of the U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon low rate initial Production IV and full rate Production I aircraft.

Caterpillar Inc. (CAT) lost 0.13 percent in pre-market trade after it announced a 10 percent decline in global retail sales from June to August.

General Electric Co. (GE) was down 0.12 percent before the markets opened after trading on a high when the company’s chief executive remarked that he had an all-time high backlog of new business.

European markets are lower and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down 1.4 cents to $3.447 per gallon.

CarMax Inc. (KMX) reported second quarter EPS of $0.62 on revenue of $3.25 billion, compared to last year’s EPS of $0.48 on revenue of $2.76 billion.

Carnival Corporation (CCL) reported third quarter EPS of $1.38 on revenue of $4.73 billion, compared to last year’s EPS of $1.53 on revenue of $4.68 billion.

Lennar Corporation (LEN) reported third quarter EPS of $0.54 on revenue of $1.60 billion, compared to last year’s EPS of $0.40 on revenue of $1.10 billion.

Other stocks expected to report earnings today include:

AutoZone, Inc (AZO) is expected to report EPS of $10.38 on revenue of $3.10 billion, compared to last year’s EPS of $8.46 on revenue of $3.10 billion.

Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY) is expected to report EPS of $1.15 on revenue of $2.81 billion, compared to last year’s EPS of $0.98 on revenue of $2.59 billion.

Jabil Circuit, Inc. (JBL) is expected to report EPS of $0.54 on revenue of $4.53 billion, compared to last year’s EPS of $0.54 on revenue of $4.34 billion.

Synnex Corporation (NX) is expected to report EPS of $0.94 on revenue of $2.72 billion, compared to last year’s EPS of $0.93 on revenue of $2.58 billion.
