Microsoft Inc. (MSFT) reported earnings Thursday after the close. The software maker reported that fourth-quarter net income came in at $5 billion, or 59 cents per share, which included a charge of $900 million, or $0.07 per share, “related to Surface RT inventory adjustments.â€
While the results did represent an increase of 5 percent from the year-ago quarter, the impact of the Surface write-off helped the company miss analysts expectations for earnings of 75 cents per share.
Shares will open down -8% this morning.
