Verizon (VZ) is the only Dow stock at 52 week highs. Alcoa (AA) is at a 52 week low. This is the first Dow stock 52 week low that has appeared in a long, long while.

The Market

Yesterday the Dow closed down -81.45 (-0.56%) at 14,537.14.

This morning the Dow was indicated to open up +41 points, but is now down -37.

Police near Boston are in a manhunt for one of the suspects in the Boston marathon bombing. The other suspect was shot and killed in a shoot-out with police.

European markets are mostly higher and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down six-tenths of a cent to $3.506 per gallon.

Earnings Reports

Last night IBM and Microsoft reported earnings after the close.

International Business Machines (IBM) reported Q1 EPS of $3.00 versus the estimated $3.05, missing by $0.05. Revenue was $23.40B versus the estimated $24.69B.

Microsoft (MSFT) reported Q3 EPS of $0.65 versus the estimated $0.76, missing by $0.11. Revenue was $20.40B versus the estimated $20.68B.

Before the open today we had earnings from GE and McDonald’s.

General Electric Co. adjusted earnings per share increased 14.71% to $0.39 in the quarter versus EPS of $0.34 in the year-earlier quarter. Revenue decreased 0.49% to $35.01 billion from the year-earlier quarter. Results beat the estimates for $0.35 eps and revenue of $34.63 billion.

McDonald’s Corp. earnings increased 2.44% to $1.26 in the quarter versus EPS of $1.23 in the year-earlier quarter. Revenue was up 0.9% to $6.61 billion from the year-earlier quarter. McDonald’s missed the eps estimate for $1.27 and beat the average revenue estimate of $6.59 billion.
