The Market

The Dow is indicated to open up +18 points.

The Dow closed down Friday -40.86 (-0.28%) at 14,565.25.

GE (GE) announced today that it will buy Lufkin Industries (LUFK) for $88.50 per share, which is a 38% premium to Friday’s close, which equates to about $38 billion. Lufkin Industries manufactures industrial gears and provides artificial lift technololgies for the oil and gas industry.

AT&T (T) announced that employees represented by the Communications Workers of America voted to ratify a four-year contract with AT&T Mobility which covers more than 20,000 AT&T Mobility employees in 36 states and the District of Columbia.

European markets are higher and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down eight-tenths of a cent to $3.593 per gallon.
