Trump said he will soon make a decision on whether to launch a “massive attack” on Iran after the conflict in the Middle East extended to a new battleground in the Red Sea. Speaking to Axios on Thursday, the president said the proposed strikes would be bigger than anything seen in the war so far, and that Iran has not “received enough pain yet.”

The 10-year Treasury yield on Thursday topped 4.7%, its highest level going back to January 2025 as an escalation in hostilities in the Middle East added to inflation fears. Oil prices spiked, with Brent crude futures climbing above $100 per barrel following news that Houthi rebels attacked tankers off the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia, and as the U.S. threatened to ramp up strikes.

The Trump administration will impose new tariffs just after midnight ET on 60 countries over alleged forced-labor violations, senior administration officials said Thursday. The duties, set between 10% and 12.5%, will effectively replace President Donald Trump’s temporary 10% global tariffs, which are set to expire at the same time as the new ones take effect. The forthcoming tariffs will apply to 60 trade partners and will cover over 99% of U.S. trade. The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative told CNBC it could not provide an estimate of how much revenue the new tariffs will generate.

U.S. futures are mixed, European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is up 1.4 cents at $4.1050 per gallon.
