The Dow stock losers Monday were led by Nvidia (NVDA) 203.53 (-3.52%), Boeing (BA) 215.51 (-3.05%) and Caterpillar (CAT) 931.47 (-2.20%).

The VIX closed Monday at 17.16 (+14.17%) and the 10 YR at 4.616 (+1.58%). The VIX is currently at 16.56 (-3.50%). The 10YR is at 4.571 (-0.41%).

The consumer price index increased by 3.5% in June from the year-earlier period, below the Dow Jones consensus of 3.8%, as energy prices eased last month.

Shares of Goldman Sachs (GS) were more than 3% higher in premarket trading Tuesday after the bank’s second-quarter earnings and revenue surpassed analyst expectations. Goldman reported earnings of $20.98 per share, above the $14.48 per share that analysts were expecting. Additionally, the bank’s revenue of $20.34 billion exceeded the $16.13 billion consensus estimate.

JPMorgan (JPM) shares were down slightly in the premarket after the banking giant posted Q2 results. The bank earned $6.14 per share, excluding significant items, on revenue of $58.02 billion. Analysts expected a profit of $5.85 per share on revenue of $50.19 billion. To be sure, it wasn’t clear if the bank’s profit was comparable to the consensus.

U.S. futures are mostly higher, European stocks are mostly lower and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down -0.0130 at $3.8590 per gallon.
