The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to be down -695 points.

Monday the Dow closed down +73.14 (-0.15%) at 48,904.78.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +1.75%.

Monday, (12) Dow stocks were up, none made 52-week lows, and (6) made 52-week highs.

The Dow stock winners Monday were led by Salesforce (CRM) 199.47 (+4.03%), American Express (AXP) 335.32 (+2.52%) and IBM (IBM) 242.01 (+1.88%).

The Dow stock losers Monday were led by Nvidia (NVDA) 184.89 (-5.46%), Merck (MRK) 119.30 (-2.58%) and Caterpillar (CAT) 752.93 (-1.78%).

The VIX closed Monday at 21.44 (+7.96%) and the 10 YR at 4.042 (+1.81%). The VIX is currently at 25.21 (+17.58%). The 10YR is at 4.097 (+1.19%).

Dow Futures are down over 1% this morning.

Global crude prices continued to surge on Tuesday on worries the tensions could disrupt oil infrastructure and push up fuel prices, adding inflationary risks. An Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander said the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most vital transit route for crude oil, is closed and that Iran would set ablaze ships attempting the route, according to Iranian media. Brent crude popped 9% while West Texas Intermediate futures gained more than 8%.

So far this morning things are taking a dump.

U.S. futures are lower, European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is up 11.2 cents at $3.109 per gallon.
