The Dow stock winners Tuesday were led by Caterpillar (CAT) 775.00 (+4.40%), Verizon (VZ) 48.97 (+3.33%) and Coca Cola (KO) 78.60 (+2.33%).

The Dow stock losers Tuesday were led by IBM (IBM) 272.81 (-6.50%), Salesforce (CRM) 185.00 (-4.37%) and Boeing (BA) 236.26 (-2.61%).

The VIX closed Wednesday at 17.65 (-0.79%) and the 10 YR at 4.181 (+0.60%). The VIX is currently at 17.26 (-2.21%). The 10YR is at 4.163 (-0.41%).

Cisco (CSCO) dropped about 7% after posting non-GAAP gross margin of 67.5%, a little below the 68.1% estimate. Otherwise, Cisco posted second-quarter results that exceeded estimates on the top and bottom lines. The stock is up 11% already this year.

McDonald’s (MCD) slipped less than 1% after it posted fourth-quarter earnings of $3.12 per share, on an adjusted basis, on revenues of $7.01 billion. That topped expectations of per-share earnings of $3.05 on revenues of $6.84 billion.

The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States decreased by 5,000 to 227,000 in the week ending February 7, the Department of Labor shared in its report on Thursday. The 4-week moving average rose by 7,000 from the previous week’s unrevised average to stand at 219,500. Meanwhile, the insured unemployment rate came in at 1.2% in the week ending January 31, remaining unchanged in comparison to the previous week, as the insured unemployment number amounted to 1,862,000, jumping by 21,000 from the previous week’s revised figures. The 4-week moving average was 1,846,750, decreasing by 3,250 compared to the week prior.

Also today we get January’s existing home sales reading at 10:00 a.m. ET. That report is expected to have dropped 4.6% last month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.15 million. That’s down from 4.35 million units in the prior report.

U.S. futures are higher, European stocks are mostly higher and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is up seven-tenths of a cent at $2.944 per gallon.
