The VIX closed Monday at 15.12 (+4.35%) and the 10 YR at 4.186 (+0.24%). The VIX is currently at 14.90 (-1.46%). The 10YR is at 4.170 (-0.45%).

The consumer price index, a widely followed measure of inflation, rose 0.3% month over month and 2.7% from the year-earlier period, matching expectations. However, core CPI, which strips out food and energy, rose 2.6% year over year. That’s less than the consensus of 2.8%.

JPMorgan (JPM) rose around 1% on fourth-quarter figures that beat analyst expectations. JPMorgan earned $5.23 per share, excluding items, on revenue of $46.77 billion. Analysts expected a profit of $5 on revenue of $46.2 billion. JPMorgan’s beats were driven in parts by a strong performance from its trading operations.

U.S. futures are mostly higher, European stocks are mostly higher and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is up one-tenth of a cent at $2.796 per gallon.
