The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to be up +57 points.

Friday the Dow closed up 183.04 (+0.38%) at 48,134.89.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +13.14%.

Friday, (18) Dow stocks were up, none made 52-week lows, and none made 52-week highs.

The Dow stock winners Friday were led by Nvidia (NVDA) 180.99 (+3.93%), Boeing (BA) 214.08 (+2.79%) and Goldman Sachs (GS) 893.48 (+1.96%).

The Dow stock losers Friday were led by Nike (NKE) 58.71 (-10.54%), Home Depot (HD) 345.00 (-2.81%) and Verizon (VZ) 39.82 (-1.46%).

The VIX closed Friday at 14.91 (-11.62%) and the 10 YR at 4.150 (+0.78%). The VIX is currently at 16.17 (-4.15%). The 10YR is at 4.144 (+0.63%).

Honeywell (HON) fell 2% after it said in a regulatory filing that it expects to take a one-time charge in the fourth quarter that would lower GAAP sales by $310 million and operating income by $370 million. The charge is tied to settlement talks with Flexjet.

Nvidia (NVDA) shares were up almost 2% in the premarket on Monday after Reuters reported that the chipmaker is seeking to start shipments of its H200 chips to China by mid-February. The report, which cited people familiar with the matter, said that the shipments are anticipated to total between 5,000 and 10,000 chip modules, or approximately 40,000 to 80,000 of H200 chips. The report also said that because China hasn’t yet approved any purchases of the chips, the timeline may change as a result of decisions by the government. Trump said earlier this month that Nvidia will be allowed to begin shipping the chips to “approved customers” in China, as well as other countries, if the U.S. gets a 25% cut.

Gold and silver hit fresh record highs, adding to their strong gains for 2025. Gold was last up more than 1% at $4,443.10 per ounce, while silver climbed 2.3% to $69.06. For the year, gold is up 68% while silver has more than doubled.

Now, will we get the coveted Santa Claus rally? The so-called rally, coined by Yale Hirsch, founder of the Stock Trader’s Almanac, in 1972 occurs between the last five trading days of the year and the first two of the new year. In this case, that would be from the opening bell on Dec. 24 until the second trading day of 2026, or Jan. 5.

U.S. futures are higher, European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down three-tenths of a cent at $2.855 per gallon.

Nike (NKE) reported earnings on 12/18/2025 after the market close with $0.53, beating estimates for $0.38 per share.

JPMorgan (JPM) reports earnings on 1/13/2026 after the market close.

Goldman Sachs (GS) reports earnings on 1/15/2026 before the market open.
