The VIX closed Monday at 16.66 (+8.11%) and the 10 YR at 4.172 (+0.75%). The VIX is currently at 17.11 (+2.70%). The 10YR is at 4.149 (-0.57%).

Traders this week are waiting for the Fed’s highly awaited interest rate decision on Wednesday, which will be the last of the year. Markets are betting that the Fed will lower its key overnight lending rate by another quarter percentage point as it did at its meetings in September and October. Fed funds futures suggest an 89% chance of a decrease, up from under 67% about a month ago. The Fed’s economic projections and Chairman Powell’s commentary will play a big role in how markets react tomorrow.

Home Depot (HD) shares were down more than 1% after the home improvement giant issued weaker-than-expected earnings growth guidance for 2026. The company sees adjusted diluted earnings expanding in a 0%-4% range. Analysts expected an expansion of 5.2%.

Nvidia (NVDA) has approval from the U.S. government to sell its more advanced H200 AI chips to China. But the question is whether Beijing wants it or will let companies buy it. The company can now ship its H200 chip to “approved customers”, provided the U.S. government gets a 25% cut of those sales. It had been effectively banned from selling any semiconductors to China earlier this year, but since July sought to resume H20 sales, a less advanced chip designed specifically to comply with export restrictions.

U.S. futures are lower, European stocks are mostly lower and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down seven-tenths of a cent at $2.945 per gallon.
