The Dow stock losers Tuesday were led by Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) 186.93 (-1.77%), Nike (NKE) 67.43 (-1.69%) and Walmart (WMT) 103.17 (-1.24%).

The VIX closed Tuesday at 16.42 (+3.99%) and the 10 YR at 3.972 (-0.58%). The VIX is currently at 16.44 (+0.12%). The 10YR is at 3.983 (+0.05%).

Nvidia (NVDA) shares were up more than 3% in the premarket, putting the chipmaker on pace to reach a market capitalization of $5 trillion. It would be the first time a U.S. company would reach such a valuation.

The Fed is widely expected to cut rates by a quarter point at the conclusion of its meeting Wednesday but are less certain whether Chair Jerome Powell will strike a dovish tone in his post-meeting comments. Investors are counting on another interest rate cut from the central bank at its December meeting.

Caterpillar (CAT) rose 4% on stronger-than-anticipated results for the third quarter. Caterpillar earned $4.95 per share, adjusted, on revenue of $17.64 billion, while analysts polled by LSEG forecasted a profit of $4.59 per share on revenue of $16.77 billion.

Boeing (BA) shares fell nearly 1% in the premarket on Wednesday after the aerospace company’s latest quarterly results. Boeing posted an adjusted loss per share of $7.47 for the period, missing the loss of $4.59 per share that analysts surveyed by LSEG had penciled in. By contrast, Boeing reported $23.27 billion in revenue for the third quarter, above the consensus estimate of $21.97 billion.

Visa (V) shares rose 1% after the payments company reported fourth-quarter results that exceeded expectations on the top and bottom lines. Visa posted adjusted quarterly earnings of $2.98 per share on revenue of $10.72 billion. Analysts polled by LSEG had expected per-share earnings of $2.97 on revenue of $10.61 billion.

U.S. futures are mostly higher, European stocks are mostly lower and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down eight-tenths of a cent at $3.052 per gallon.
