Year-to-date the Dow is up +8.01%.

Thursday, (14) Dow stocks were up, none made 52-week lows, and (2) made 52-week highs.

The Dow stock winners Thursday were led by Salesforce (CRM) 246.00 (+3.98%), Procter & Gamble (PG) 149.60 (+1.48%) and Caterpillar (CAT) 540.96 (+1.29%).

The Dow stock losers Thursday were led by Visa (V) 335.40 (-2.98%), Travelers (TRV) 261.57 (-2.92%) and Nike (NKE) 66.84 (-2.37%).

The VIX closed Thursday at 25.31 (+22.63%) and the 10 YR at 3.961 (-0.38%). The VIX is currently at 24.01 (-5.14%). The 10YR is at 3.994 (+0.48%).

Fear permeated through Wall Street again on Friday, with the Cboe Volatility Index (VIX) topping 27 for the first time since April. I think this was on banks.

Things are now calming down a bit with really no Dow news. And no new data with the government shut down.

Next week we do get CPI data and the week after is the Fed meeting.

U.S. futures are mostly lower, European stocks are mostly lower and Asian markets ended lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down six-tenths of a cent at $3.051 per gallon.
