The Dow stock losers Tuesday were led by Procter & Gamble (PG) 147.49 (-1.47%), Cisco (CSCO) 67.46 (-0.71%) and Coca Cola (KO) 66.80 (-0.36%).

The VIX closed Tuesday at 20.81 (+9.35%) and the 10 YR at 4.034 (+0.57%). The VIX is currently at 19.42 (-6.68%). The 10YR is at 4.025 (+0.05%).

The U.S.-China trade tensions should ease at an upcoming meeting between the two countries in South Korea, though not everything may be resolved.

Factory activity in the New York area unexpectedly accelerated in October as optimism for the future and hiring also rose, the regional Federal Reserve reported Wednesday. The New York Fed’s Empire State Manufacturing Survey posted a headline reading of 10.7, up 19.4 points from September and well ahead of the Dow Jones consensus estimate for -1.8. The gauge measures the percentage difference between companies reporting growth against contraction. Within the survey, the upbeat look at business conditions came even with increases in both the prices paid and received indexes. At the same time, the employee index jumped to 6.2, up 7.4 points from a month ago. In addition to the strong near-term measures, the general business conditions index for six months from now rose to 30.3, up 15.5 points. Virtually all other expectations indexes also posted increases.

U.S. futures are higher, European stocks are mostly higher and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down nine-tenths of a cent at $3.067 per gallon.
