The Dow stock winners Monday were led by Salesforce (CRM) 245.78 (+2.25%), Microsoft (MSFT) 528.57 (+2.17%) and Boeing (BA) 219.73 (+1.59%).

The Dow stock losers Monday were led by Verizon (VZ) 41.44 (-5.11%), Sherwin Williams (SHW) 336.91 (-2.80%) and 3M (MMM) 155.93 (-1.72%).

The VIX closed Monday at 16.37 (-1.68%) and the 10 YR at 4.156 (-0.07%). The VIX is currently at 16.26 (-0.67%). The 10YR is at 4.155 (-0.10%).

Last week’s jobs report would have been pretty bad, Carlyle’s analysis shows. Employment growth was essentially flat in September, according to data from investment giant Carlyle that seeks to fill in data gaps created by the government shutdown. The firm said its proprietary data showed job growth of just 17,000 from the month, which would be even less than the 22,000 gain in August reflected in Bureau of Labor Statistics data.

Wednesday, the latest Fed minutes will be released.

U.S. futures are higher, European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down 1.2 cents at $3.121 per gallon.
