The VIX closed Wednesday at 16.29 (+0.06%) and the 10 YR at 4.098 (-1.04%). The VIX is currently at 16.45 (-1.08%). The 10YR is at 4.093 (+0.10%).

Shares of Apple (AAPL) were about 1% lower in premarket trading after Jefferies downgraded the iPhone maker to underperform from hold. The firm said increased demand for the iPhone 17 has made expectations “excessive” for a foldable iPhone 18.

The government shutdown has led to an economic data blackout. The Labor Department’s pause on virtually all activity has blocked the Friday release of the September nonfarm payrolls report, lessening the amount of economic data the Federal Reserve can factor into its interest rate decision at its October meeting. However, it also removes a factor that could lend pressure to stocks.

U.S. futures are higher, European stocks are mostly higher and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down seven-tenths of a cent at $3.152 per gallon.
