DJIA Market Happenings For Friday, September 12, 2025 – Amazon (AMZN) 229.95 Up +4.81% YTD

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to be down -103 points.

Thursday the Dow closed up +617.08 (+1.36%) at 46,108.00.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +8.38%.

Thursday, (25) Dow stocks were up, none made 52-week lows, and (2) made 52-week highs.

The Dow stock winners Thursday were 3M (MMM) 159.47 (+3.84%), Sherwin Williams (SHW) 368.68 (+3.14%) and Travelers (TRV) 279.43 (+2.61%).

The Dow stock losers Thursday were led by Boeing (BA) 219.99 (-3.31%), Cisco (CSCO) 67.69 (-0.65%) and Coca Cola (KO) 67.62 (-0.29%).

The VIX closed Thursday at 14.71 (-4.17%) and the 10 YR at 4.026 (-0.22%). The VIX is currently at 14.73 (+0.14%). The 10YR is at 4.065 (+1.32%).

Yesterday the consumer price index showed a month-to-month increase of 0.4% for August, hotter than the 0.3% that economists polled by Dow Jones were expecting. However, the index’s 2.9% rise on a 12-month basis was in line with expectations. Then weekly jobless claims showed a surprise jump to the highest level since October 2021. Workers filing for unemployment compensation for the week ended Sept. 6 increased 27,000 to 263,000, more than the 235,000 total expected. Futures markets are now pricing in a quarter percentage point at the conclusion of Fed’s Sept. 17 meeting.

The Dow is up 1.56% week-to-date, on pace for its first positive week in three.

U.S. futures are mostly lower, European stocks are mostly lower and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down six-tenths of a cent at $3.188 per gallon.
