The Dow stock winners Tuesday were UnitedHealth (UNH) 347.92 (+8.64%), Goldman Sachs (GS) 763.92 (+2.97%) and JPMorgan (JPM) 297.85 (+1.69%).

The Dow stock losers Tuesday were led by Sherwin Williams (SHW) 361.38 (-3.69%), Apple (AAPL) 234.35 (-1.48%) and Disney (DIS) 117.37 (-1.24%).

The VIX closed Tuesday at 15.04 (-0.46%) and the 10 YR at 4.087 (+0.79%). The VIX is currently at 14.66 (-2.53%). The 10YR is at 4.058 (-0.59%).

The latest producer price index reading, which showed that wholesale prices fell 0.1% in August. Economists had estimated a 0.3% gain. Core PPI, which excludes food and energy prices, likewise declined 0.1%, while the forecast called for 0.3%.

Traders currently see a certainty that the Fed will cut by at least a quarter point, per the CME Fedwatch tool based on fed futures trading. They also increased their bets following the PPI data that the central bank could make an even deeper cut to rates, by 50 basis points, or a half percentage point.

U.S. futures are higher, European stocks are mostly higher and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is unchabged at $3.193 per gallon.
