Caterpillar (CAT) shares fell more than 3% after the industrial giant posted weaker-than-expected earnings for the second quarter. The company earned $4.72 per share, while analysts expected a profit of $4.90 per share. Its revenue of $16.57 billion, however, beat analyst expectations.

U.S. futures are mostly higher, European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is up 1.1 cents at $3.163 per gallon.
