The Dow stock winners Friday were led by IBM (IBM) 261.54 (+5.17%), Verizon (VZ) 46.06 (+4.14%) and McDonald’s (MCD) 321.29 (+3.52%).
The Dow stock losers Friday were led by Walmart (WMT) 91.72 (-3.09%), Boeing (BA) 54.18 (-2.68%) and JPMorgan (JPM) 242.28 (-1.73%).
The VIX closed Friday at 23.37 and the 10 YR at 4.263 (-1.25%). The VIX is currently at 26.39 (+12.92%). The 10YR is at 4.241 (-1.76%).
Last week, the Dow fell 2.37%.
This week we get a slew of economic data. This includes the New York Fed survey of consumer expectations on Monday, the consumer price index release on Wednesday, the producer price index on Thursday and the University of Michigan consumer sentiment reading on Friday.
Congress needs to pass a funding bill by Friday, if not, the federal government will shut down. House Republicans released a plan over the weekend that would keep the government running through Sept. 30, but Democrats will likely oppose it because it would reduce nondefense spending below 2024 levels. If the government shuts down, it could lead to worker furloughs and service disruptions at a time when Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency has carried out mass federal layoffs.
U.S. futures are lower, European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended mostly lower.
The national average price of gasoline is unchanged at $3.089 per gallon.
