The Dow stock winners Tuesday were led by Nvidia (NVDA) 147.01 (+4.89%), Walmart (WMT) 86.60 (+3.00%) and Amazon (AMZN) 204.61 (+1.44%).

The Dow stock losers Tuesday were led by UnitedHealth (UNH) 577.00 (-2.15%), 3M (MMM) 128.19 (-1.52%) and Nike (NKE) 73.91 (-1.31%).

The VIX closed Tuesday at 16.35 (+4.94%) and the 10 YR at 4.397 (-0.39%). The VIX is currently at 16.32 (-0.18%). The 10YR is at 4.430 (+1.19%).

Mortgage activity picked up last week, according to the latest survey from the Mortgage Bankers Association. Purchase application were up 2% last week, the biggest since the week of Oct. 25. Refinancing applications rose 1.8%, which was the first increase in that category since September. The survey could be positive sign for home construction stocks.

U.S. futures are mostly higher, European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is up three-tenths of a cent at $3.066 per gallon.
