The Dow ended Friday at an all-time high close above 42,000.

Intel (INTC) rose 4% on news that asset management company Apollo Global Management offered to make an equity-like investment of as much as $5 billion in Intel. It was confirmed on Friday that Qualcomm had recently approached Intel about a takeover. Intel has lost more than half its value this year, and last reached an all-time high in the summer of 2000.

Atlanta Federal Reserve President Raphael Bostic said Monday he supported last week’s half percentage point interest rate cut and believes policymakers can move more quickly than he had expected to loosen monetary policy.

U.S. futures are higher, European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is unchanged at $3.208 per gallon.
