The VIX closed Thursday at 12.92 (+0.54%) and the 10 YR at 4.207 (+0.43%). The VIX is currently at 12.56 (-2.79%). The 10YR is at 4.205 (+0.38%).

The monthly inflation rate fell in June for the first time in more than four years, according to data released Thursday. The consumer price index, which measures costs for goods and services, declined 0.1% from May. That puts the 12-month inflation rate at 3%, which is around its lowest level in more than three years.

JPMorgan (JPM) posted second-quarter revenue that topped analysts’ expectations on Friday morning. The bank said its second-quarter revenue was $50.99 billion above the $49.87 billion estimate. The beat came as investment banking fees surged 50% from a year earlier.

A reading of wholesale inflation came in slightly hotter than expected on Friday, but Wall Street largely ignored those figures after a drop in the consumer price index a day earlier that spurred optimism the Federal Reserve would cut rates in September.

The producer price index advanced 0.2% last month, the government said Friday. That was a touch faster than Wall Street’s 0.1% forecast. Yet the more closely followed core rate of wholesale inflation was unchanged in June, below forecasts for a 0.2% increase.

U.S. futures are mostly higher, European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down six-tenths of a cent at $3.538 per gallon.
