Friday the Dow closed up +90.99 (+0.23%) at 39,087.38.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +3.71%.

The Dow stock winners Friday were led by Salesforce (CRM) 316.88 (+2.61%), Amgen (AMGN) 280.33 (+2.37%) and Intel (INTC) 43.82 (+1.79%).

The Dow stock losers Friday were led by Boeing (BA) 2000.00 (-1.83%), Nike (NKE) 101.88 (-1.62%) and Travelers (TRV) 218.82 (-0.97%).

The VIX closed Friday at 13.08 (-2.39%) and the 10 YR at 4.184 (-0.068%). The VIX is currently at 13.52 (+3.13%). The 10YR is at 4.227 (+0.045%).

This week, investors will look for clues about the future direction of interest rates from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s monetary policy updates to the House of Representatives on Wednesday and to the Senate on Thursday.

The ADP Employment Survey and January job openings data will be released on Wednesday, providing further insight into the labor market.

Manufacturing and nonfarm payrolls data for February will be released on Friday.

Apple (AAPL) shares were down about 0.8% in the premarket after the European Commission fined the tech giant more than €1.8 billion over the company’s “abusive” app store rules for music streamers. Apple responded saying the decision was reached “despite the Commission’s failure to uncover any credible evidence of consumer harm and ignores the realities of a market that is thriving, competitive, and growing fast.”

U.S. futures are mixed, European stocks are mostly higher and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is up 1.2 cents at $3.331 per gallon.
