The Dow stock losers Wednesday were led by Walgreens (WBA) 20.63 (-2.13%), Nike (NKE) 100.88 (-1.84%) and Chevron (CVX) 143.98 (-1.20%).

The VIX closed Wednesday at 16.87 (-7.00%) and the 10 YR at 4.697 (-1.72%). The VIX is currently at 116.13 (-4.39%). The 10YR is at 4.625 (-3.22%).

The Fed on Wednesday kept interest rates unchanged again and upgraded its assessment of the U.S. economy. To be sure, Chair Jerome Powell would not rule out a rate increase at the December meeting.

Weekly jobless claims on Thursday ticked higher to 217,000 for week ending Oct. 28, more than the 210,000 in the previous week and the current 214,000 consensus estimate.

Labor costs unexpectedly fell by 0.8% in the third quarter versus expectations for a 0.7% increase, according to economists.

Friday brings us the nonfarm payrolls, the unemployment rate and hourly wages.

U.S. futures are higher, European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down 1.4 cents at $3.448 per gallon.
