The Dow stock losers Thursday were led by Travelers (TRV) 163.94 (-2.48%), Caterpillar (CAT) 251.59 (-2.44%) and Disney (DIS) 83.25 (-1.69%).

The VIX closed Thursday at 21.11 (+-1.26%) and the 10 YR at 4.935 (-0.98%). The VIX is currently at 21.18 (-1.03%). The 10YR is at 4.944 (-0.80%).

The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury crossed 5% for the first time in 16 years. The 10-year yield hit 5.001% around 5 p.m. ET on Thursday, the first time it has traded above that level since July 20, 2007, when it yielded as high as 5.029%.

Stocks were rattled Thursday after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said inflation remains too high and lower economic growth will likely be needed to bring it down. Powell also said he doesn’t think rates are too high now.

U.S. futures are lower, European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down seven-tenths of a cent at $3.558 per gallon.
